Following the surgery and post-op checks, each cat is transferred to an individual cage where she will be monitored as she gradually wakes up after the sedation.
Any concerns at that stage will be dealt with while the vets are available for consultation. Once a cat is fully awake and able to stand, she will be returned to her own cage for discharge to those who brought her. We give face-to-face post-op briefings before discharging patients plus written notes for reference on care during the recovery period.
The Zen Cats volunteers - surgeons and handlers - are such a blessing, giving their time for this cause. Most travel from Metro Manila and other cities in our region at their own expense. A number of our first generation of volunteers vets who now have their own clinics bring their more recently qualified vets to us in order to mentor them while exposing them to a wide range of patients.
I am in favor of animal rights as well as human rights. That is the way of a whole human being.
